The wedding industry is a group of hard working people. We get dirty, grind and just work our asses off. #truth #ifyouknowyouknow
I mean, I had one of my photographer friends literally kneel in (accidentally during a shoot) and get up, without hesitation and keep on working.
I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be that way. Hard-working is a good thing
Where I see a lot of us wedding vendors (florists, photographers, videographers, officiants, etc.) GO WRONG is that we think we need to OVER-WORK to make more money.
I’ve been there, and done that and I’m telling you it doesn’t have to be that way.
Here’s what I see A LOT of:
Photographers grinding out weeks worth of editing staying up all night long to bang out jobs, and then taking on more bookings with discounted pricing.
Florists looking ragged and exhausted taking on 5 weddings in a week with little to no help because they don’t have the capacity to make time to hire and train help.
Officiants doing 3-4 weddings IN ONE DAY and messing up couples names because they are doing so many weddings to make ends meet they can’t remember which bride is which.
Hair and makeup artists throwing out their backs because they’re on their feet for hours on end doing back to back weddings just trying to make enough money to pay their crew.
📋 Planners taking on every single wedding that offers to pay them any amount of money, offering to do extras (that totally isn’t their expertise) at a discounted rate. Things like making favors, designing florals, serving drinks.
This was totally me btw so don’t feel bad!!!
It is true, there is a time when we need to GRIND to get some traction and get off the ground. BUT – once you’ve got a groove and a consistent amount of bookings and referrals, this is when you need to step back and seriously re-think your business strategy.
Here are some amazing questions to ask yourself …
️ How can you work LESS and MAKE MORE?
️ Can you delegate some of your work out so you don’t have to do it all yourself?
️ What parts of the “job” do I enjoy doing most and least and how can I design my company around that?
️ Are there systems you can create to make your job easier? Think about the stuff you do over and over again, are you doing that all from scratch every single time, or do you have systems in place to save TIME and energy?
I think I’m different from a lot of other wedding vendors in that I have always been thinking outside of “the job” or my expertise in weddings. I have always felt like an entrepreneur and business owner over a “wedding planner”.
This is probably also why I have multiple businesses and how I’ve been able to scale while simultaneously cutting back on my hours and “grind” time.
You can be amazing at your trade (photography, makeup, florals) but a show at business (marketing, management, systems, finances).
And if this is the case, you can’t expect to grow without killing yourself in the process.
The key is to THINK differently.
Question things.
Take time to reflect and re-work your business again and again until it’s working FOR you, instead of dragging you the
Your wedding business doesn’t have to be a grind, there are a million different ways to grow in this amazing industry, make tons of money, without having to kill yourself in the process.
You can make $100k /year without taking on 100 weddings. Without working yourself to death. Without taking the weddings you know aren’t going to value you and aren’t a good fit.
I did it. I’m doing it. And if I did it, you can too!
Cheering for you 🤗
